Basic SEO for Freelancers With Simple Sites

How to show up on Google without being a tech expert.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is just a fancy way of saying "making sure Google knows what your site is about". You don't need a complex strategy. Just follow these four "No-Jargon" rules:

1. Use the Right Keywords

Think about what your client would type into Google. Instead of "I offer writing services," use words like "Freelance health and wellness writer". Be specific!

2. Use Headings (H1, H2, H3)

Google reads your site like a book. Your main title should be an H1 tag, and your sub-sections should be H2 or H3 tags. This helps search engines understand your most important points.

3. Mobile-First is a Must

Most people will find you on their phones. Google penalizes sites that don't look good on mobile, so ensure your buttons and text are easy to use on a small screen.

4. Link Between Your Pages

Add "Internal Links" to connect your articles. For example, at the end of this post, we link back to our Checklist Guide to keep readers on our site longer.
